What now?

Imagine
If you were Mary
Nine months pregnant
Away from home.
How distant now
Does the angel seem?
Do you regret
Agreeing to this?
So dependent on Joseph
Where does God fit in?
Is there joy in your heart?
Or only fear?

The trouble with this story is that we’re too familiar with it. But think of it another way. How often have we agreed to something in certain circumstances and then had to live with the consequences? How often do things turn out not quite as we envisaged?

  1. I have been wondering quite a bit about Mary this Christmas season. To hold your child in your arms and know there is no physical/natural reason to exist. How do you put into words that type of amazement?
