Joy of freesias

freessia DSCN0638

Scent hit me before I saw them
The sight a joy to behold
Resurrection, restoration
Lost treasure
New pleasure
Life from shrivelled corms
Old friends renewed.
I grew the first from seed
Many years ago
Season followed season
Of tantalising leaves.
Eventually some flowers
Lots of lovely flowers
Then drought and greenfly
Intervened
Few shrunken bits remained
Once again I planted
The remnants that I had
And now I am rewarded
