Recurring themes

They say you never cross the same river twice
The water that wet you once
Moved on
You dip your toes in other water

Water flows in cycles
From the sea
Back to the clouds
And down again
As rain
Should it not
Revisit that same river
As you do?

Is every water molecule named?
Can we only drink each one once?
Must each once visit
Every stream on earth
And is its time then done?

And what of thoughts
That come to mind
Do they flow
Like water?
When we return
To the same question
Is it really the same?
Has it changed like the river?

What is the river of thought?
What is its water
Its flow
Its power

Time and again
I return to its banks
And dip in my toe

What is this thought
Where has it been
Has it been to the sea
And up to the clouds
Is it part of me
Or something external?

Recurring themes
Come round and round
Or so it seems
But is anything
What it seems?
