Asymmetric acceptance

Someone likes what I did
I bask in approval
My veins are fizzling with praise
Happy, I’m happy
And welcome their view
This opinion means such a lot
My work doesn’t please
I’ll not take it to heart
But blame my critic’s bad mood
Discouraged I won’t be
It’s only their view
This opinion doesn’t mean much.
.
Pragmatic? Illogical?
For years it would plague me
Something objects to the
Stark inconsistency
Take the rough with the smooth
Some voice keeps insisting
But selective acceptance
Is how I survive

Good is stronger than bad
Light shines in the dark
Love overcomes hate
Joy permeates sorrow
Opposing forces
Unequal forces
The devil
Cannot match
God
