Once upon a time

Once upon a time
All stories started thus
The rhythm trained the ear
And we were primed to hear
The story that unfolded.
Once upon a time
Our minds would still
And be alert
For pictures painted
By the words
That followed such a start.
Once upon a time
In eager expectation
We sat spellbound
Our minds entranced
Oblivious to distraction
Once upon a time
The story world
Made real to us
By stepping through the door
Of Once upon a time.

Thanks to Chester for inspiring this. (Well, Chester’s neighbour, Harold, to be precise.)

One Response to Once upon a time

  1. Once upon a rhyme,
    I penned …
    The End
(It was a very short poem, and not as good as yours – which I like very much!) 🙂
